bee involved - bees and beekeeping

NEW FOR 2022

The below are new ideas for 2022 based on feedback and questions. The below are very niche and specific so are not listed in the shop or products pages. I will also be undertaking only a handful of the below, so if you are interested, please drop me a mail and I can send you more information or schedule a chat.

Hive Sponsorship

I have been asked if someone could sponsor a hive and immediately thought of a nice certificate with a soft bee toy, like many animal sponsorship gimmicks, promptly dismissed. I have also been asked for personalised honey jars and often about how bees are managed. So after a lot of thought I am going to provide a unique service to a small number of  Apis Aficionados to tick all the above. Hive Sponsorship;

  • Each hive will only be able to have one Sponsor
  • Over the active season I will produce detailed reports each month which will cover what I am doing, manipulations and techniques, colony status, photos, etc...  Ideal if you are interested in bees and/or are considering taking up bee keeping.  To be clear this is warts and all and sometimes colonies die. If this happens I will repopulate the hive or move Sponsorship to another hive.
  • Hopefully your hive produces honey.  As part of the Sponsorship I will label an agreed number of honey jars with personalised labels. Note that there has to be some defined labeling on the jars to meet trading standards. If your hive does not produce honey then your don't pay for this aspect of the service or  I can source honey from another hive.
  • Oh and you can name the Queen and get a certificate

The above would make an ideal and unique Christmas present and/or a good introduction to bee keeping

Serviced Hives

My bees live at out apiaries,  this means that the hives are located on other peoples land.  This is something I again get asked a lot about. If you are interested in hosting bees I could look at providing hives/bees and managing them. Similar to the hive sponsorship above, you would receive reports and a defined number of personalised honey jars.  Note that I am based in the South Chilterns so you would need to be local to me.

There is also the potential, if you complete a beekeeping course and join your local Bee Keepers Association, to buy the hives/bees and progress with your own established apirary

To meet my obligations as a beekeeper hives/hive locations would need to be registered and access allowed to Bee Inspectors should there be an outbreak of notifiable disease locally.
